The Tories redesign

The UK Conservative Party has dropped it's 1980s fossil-fuel-burning torch logo in favour of a scribbled tree. The party faithful are (unsurprisingly) up in arms.
When dealing with clients we generally groan when we hear "we showed the layouts to some guys in the office and to our friends and families, and some said ...". In this case it should have been easy to get a response from a wider, wiser crowd, and that may have prevented the ensuing backlash.
