Coming Zune
Posted on July 24, 2006
A very small and unusual teaser site for Microsoft's touted iPod-killer the "Zune". Seems to be an animated film of a would-be pederast befriending a small boy with the aid of a pet rabbit. Ours is not to reason why...
Update
Why spontaneously dis everything just because it's from a large multi-national corporation? What the hell! I like the animation. It's heartfelt and cute. Kudos all round.

Perhaps the 'Origami' debacle is too fresh in people's minds? There's also a lot of conjecture bounding about t'internet about how Zune looks, how it will work, what it will play etc. etc.
"Buzz marketing" has to engage you instantly and keep you coming back for more. I for one will watch with interest to see if Microsoft can pull it off.

I think the buzz is garantueed when microsoft launches an MP3 player.
The real art of buzz marketing is to launch a product from an unknown company via word-of-mouth. 37signals are a case in point. By making their own business and development processes transparent through blogging they generated interest from the web-development community very early, and created a strong myth around the brand. Their products aren't bad either, but aren't necessarily better than the competition's. The "David vs. Goliath" effect was a factor here. We can identify with the 37signals personalities, something which Microsoft cannot claim.
Microsoft's Zune will probably have to offer a lot that the iPod doesn't in order to compete.
