Corporate Fallout Detector

Posted on May 31, 2005

James Patten, creator of the Audiopad, presents the Corporate Fallout Detector. The geiger-counter based device scans product barcodes, and produces clicks according to the environmental and ethical record of the manufacturer.

The database contained within the Fallout Detector was created automatically by cross-referencing data from the following databases:

Global barcode database
European stock market listings
Corporate ethics database
European pollution database
List of top companies in Europe

Using a software similar to semacode, it would be possible to port the Corporate Fallout Detector to camera-equiped mobile phones, thus providing online access to a continuously updated database of product/manufacturer information. However, a mobile phone doesn't have the visual impact of a geiger counter between the supermarket shelves.

Gavitec AG are working on similar applications.
